SustainU is a clothing company utilizing domestic labor and recycled fiber to create apparel for the collegiate community. Predicated on the message of social, environmental and economic sustainability, we are focused on changing your clothing to change the world. Creating a more conscious alternative in campus clothing, we support domestic job growth while decreasing ecological impacts.
Today, more than ever, we have a responsibility to think about future generations and ask the question – how does what we do today impact the world tomorrow? Our vision is to create a global company built on the concept of employing the best practices to manufacture high-quality clothing using the best recycled fibers to minimize the impacts they have on the environment.
About 20 years ago, thousands of jobs in the apparel industry were outsourced, leaving many families without work. According to the U.S. Department of Labor statistics, hundreds of thousands of textile and apparel manufacturing jobs will be lost between 2008 and 2018. While the future appears bleak, SustainU is fighting to bring jobs back to the United States.
With fair labor issues, questionable working conditions, and child labor issues permeating foreign textile growth and manufacturing, SustainU is proud to offer only domestically sourced, recycled fiber and clothing made by American workers, giving hope to many of our friends, families and neighbors. SustainU works exclusively with U.S. factories to spin, knit, cut and sew, embellish, market, sell and re-purpose its clothing. Among these, SustainU is proud to partner with Industries for the Blind, a national non-profit seeking to provide better employment opportunities for the blind.
Our mission is to change the way clothes are made to improve the environment, reinvigorate America’s manufacturing sector, and educate the world about how clothing can positively impact people’s lives.
