The number of individuals and families in need of clothing across the United States is staggering. On average, Americans dispose of 68 pounds of clothing per person per year. This represents 4% of the U.S. solid waste stream every year and the percentage continues to rise. Imagine if all this clothing, instead of being thrown away, could be donated and distributed to those who could use it the most. Even garments past their useful life can be recycled and used in a variety of industrial applications, with proceeds going to fund programs for the disadvantaged.
