The One Shirt Campaign
Everyone is needed to help make our world and country a better place to live and prosper. The vitality of our environment, economy, and society are inherently weaved together. ONE Shirt made from 100% recycled material, created and assembled in the USA can be an example, but you must help take the lead in the quest for true sustainability. We all have the same mission; to leave future generations a world that is as good if not better than the one we inherited. We have the power to make a change that can lead to the flourishing of our country and the world as a whole. Together, we all can truly make a difference and it can start with ONE Shirt.
ONE SustainU shirt is made of 100% recycled materials, produced by the hands of an American worker, and delivered to you with pride. By choosing a SustainU garment you can help promote environmental sustainability and domestic economic stimulus. The production of one ton of yarn used in SustainU fabrics saves 1200 gallons of water, 500 kwh of electricity, and avoids the release of 1700 pounds of non biodegradable waste.
ONE old t-shirt or article of clothing, when donated, can make a meaningful difference to someone in need. The number of individuals and families in need of clothing across the United States is staggering. On average, Americans dispose of 68 pounds of clothing per person per year. This represents 4% of the U.S. solid waste stream every year and the percentage continues to rise. Imagine if all this clothing, instead of being thrown away, could be donated and distributed to those who could use it the most. Even garments past their useful life can be recycled and used in a variety of industrial applications, with proceeds going to fund programs for the disadvantaged.
The SustainU sponsored ONE Shirt Campaign is aimed to inform the student population to issues surrounding sustainability and how they can be involved. SustainU makes products with a social, economic, and environmental consciousness. With our production held entirely in the United States, we help to provide domestic jobs and future “Green” opportunities. Highlighting how ONE SustainU Shirt can make a difference with job creation, landfill diversion, and resource conservation can inspire students on campus and in their future endeavors. How we reuse our current waste, look for ways to save natural resources, and provide for those in need, will ensure future generations a self-sustaining society. This mission is all inclusive and requires participation in looking for alternative solutions to lingering problems. The ONE Shirt campaign highlights all of areas of sustainability and asks the student population to take ownership of this initiative on their campus.
